Arts Integration with Music and Storytelling
led by: Courteney Phillips
My program is to bring awareness of why arts integration is an important element in a classroom. Focusing on the key components of music and theatre arts through storytelling, showing how these arts areas specifically help with literacy enhancement and growth in a child's abilities to read, write, and communicate. By the end of my session, attendees should take away some great insight and skills that can be utilized in a classroom setting to expand their children's strengths not only in academics, but in other domain areas of learning such as social and emotional factors looking at students having appropriate conversations and interactions between peers and adults. The areas that I will focus on in my presentation will be grade level specific and be broken down to allow attendees to see the differences based on those grade levels. Elementary will focus towards storytelling and understanding the main idea and details of a story, while high school will dive into more literature based cultures such as Shakespeare. My program should not only bring awareness but allow people to see the positive growth that will come with the integration of the arts into the classroom setting.
