Botanical Plaster Casting

Create botanical plaster reliefs through the process of plaster casting in modeling clay.  Learn about the various types of clay, how to mix plaster, and how to create simple open face mold though a hands on workshop.

Each participant will leave the workshop with their own plaster cast.  Participants are welcome to bring in flowers or other textural items that they may want to include in their casting. Suitable for students of all ages and levels.


PRESENTER BIO:

Visiting Instructor, The University of North Florida

Aisling Millar was born in Dublin, Ireland on January 18th, 1982 and immigrated to the Vero Beach, FL in August 1994. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2000 to attend the University of North Florida. In 2005 she graduated with Bachelors of Arts in Education and in 2011 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture. She received her MFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University in 2014. Aisling has taught the visual arts for Duval County Public Schools, MOCA Jacksonville, Art with a Heart at Wolfson Children’s hospital, the Cathedral Arts Project, the UNF preschool, and many other local organizations.  Aisling was the Instructor of Record at East Carolina University while working towards her MFA. She is currently a Visiting Instructor of Sculpture at the University of North Florida. 

Aisling has completed local public sculpture commissions for the City of Amelia Island, FL, the City of Atlantic Beach, FL, and the Jax Chamber, FL, and most recently for the Jacksonville Jaguars Miller Electric Center, along with many other private businesses.  Her work is also in public collections in Greenville, NC, and Macon, GA.  Aisling was the recipient of an Art Ventures Grant from the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida in2020.  She creates outdoor steel sculptures that are exhibited throughout the eastern United States.  These works focus on connecting with Aisling with her Irish heritage and the celebration of communities uniting and supporting each other.  Along with outdoor sculpture, Aisling also creates ceramic sculptures and wall-hangings that utilize texture to create a visual and emotional diary, cast iron wall hangings, and ceramic mosaics for both public and private commissions.
