Into the Reef with Music

Into the Reef with Music brings Music and the Life Science curriculum to 'life' for grades 3-5. Participants will 'play' with the science of instruments and symphony musicians to experience their role as a model of interdependence; will learn about coral anatomy and bleaching; will create a 'cool' coral; and will conduct and play the sounds of a healthy coral reef. Participants can expect to have new Music and Life Science revelations, activities, and skills to enhance the engagement and curriculum for their students.

Called a ‘flutist of rare gifts’ by the New York Times, Donna Wissinger has played acclaimed solo recitals on the mainstages of Carnegie Hall and on the equally renowned Glinka Capella in St. Petersburg, Russia. Recital tours include Europe, South America, Asia and the USA. Donna attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and was a favorite student of Jean-Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker and Samuel Baron. What audiences love about Donna is her beautiful sound and her obvious love for playing and music; her enthusiasm is contagious!
Donna’s great passion is combining fun and real learning for unforgettable educational programs. Her programs, including The Pied Piper and other Fantastic Tales; Myths, Legends and Fables; Peter and the Wolf; The World Turned Upside Down: Music of the American Revolution; Tales of Legendary Florida and Preserving Our Coral Reef: Teams of Success, and the accompanying programs with orchestra receive rave reviews.
Donna is the inaugural recipient of the prestigious Doris Leeper Award for Excellence in Arts Education and has been a premier artist with the Florida State Touring Program; The New York based Learning Arts and Creative Leaps International; the Southern Artist Registry, and the South Carolina Arts Commission. Her educational programs with Joy Myers under the title of ARTZ OUT LOUD deliver quality arts programming at friendly prices. Donna enjoys being fit. She is a USPTA tennis professional, long-distance runner and ranked triathlete. Her bicycle/flute performance tour of cycling 2000 miles and 82 concerts from NYC to Miami was featured on the National Geographic Channel. Donna’s current touring includes STEAM based Preserving Our Coral Reefs: Teams of Success, narrating Peter and the Wolf with symphony orchestra, and The Power of Perseverance.
