The Supernanny Approach to Arts Classroom Management

Arts classrooms can be messy – but in education, messy isn’t always a bad thing. The struggle is maintaining control of the mess. After binge watching episodes of Supernanny, Dr. Cornwell found that many of the techniques used with individual families could be applied to arts classroom for maximum effectiveness and efficiency, a greater learning community, a better student experience……and even better administrative evaluations.

Chad Cornwell, Technical Theatre Teacher & Technical Director, Progress Village Middle Magnet School for the Arts

Dr. Chad Cornwell earned his BA in theatre and communication, MFA in musical theatre, MM in voice performance and pedagogy, and EdD in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Before entering the classroom, he made his career as a working actor/singer/dancer, director, designer, and stage manager. He has his professional certificate in arts management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his certificate in High School Theatre Management from Presett, Inc. Dr. Cornwell’s approach to arts education is in preparing future generations of artists, arts funders, arts supporters, and arts educators. He is a double below knee amputee, exploring opportunities for disabled persons in the world of theatre.
